چکیده
This work presents an experimental study on the interplay between structure and dynamics during isothermal cold crystallization of a copolymer based on poly(ethylene terephthalate) and poly(ethylene isophthalate) of poly(trimethylene terephthalate). Simultaneous X-ray scattering and dielectric spectroscopy measurements revealed that, during cold crystallization, crystalline lamellae tend form lamellar stacks during primary crystallization. A significant amount of rigid amorphous phase is formed during cold crystallization, and its location is assigned to the intralamellar stacks amorphous regions. The formation of the rigid amorphous phase during cold crystallization is less effective for. The mobile amorphous phase, giving rise to the dielectric α relaxation in the semicrystalline system is mainly located out of the stacks. The segmental dynamics of the amorphous phase is restricted by the growing crystals during secondary crystallization, but to a lesser extent than in the case of the homopolymer PET..

Correlated changes in structure and viscosity during gelatinization and gelation of tapioca starch granules
Melting of native tapioca starch granules in aqueous pastes upon heating is observed in situ using simultaneous small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS/WAXS) and solution viscometry. Correlated structure and viscosity changes suggest closely associated amylose and amylopectin chains in the semicrystalline layers, and the release of amylose chains for enhanced solution viscosity occurs larg...
متن کاملSimultaneous crystalline-amorphous phase evolution during crystallization of polymer systems
– Despite the fact that polymer crystallization has been the object of intense research, this process is far from being fully understood. Traditional polymer crystallization studies using X-ray scattering techniques mainly provide information about the ordered regions. To obtain a more complete information about the time evolution of both the crystalline and the amorphous phase during polymer c...
متن کاملIn-Situ X-Ray Characterization of Fiber Structure During Melt Spinning
The properties of a polymer are strongly influenced by its morphology. In the case of fibers from semicrystalline polymers this consists of the degree of crystallinity, the spacing and alignment of the crystalline regions, and molecular orientation of the polymer chains in the amorphous regions. Information on crystallinity and orientation can be obtained from X-ray analysis. In-situ X-ray char...
متن کاملSegmental relaxation in semicrystalline polymers: a mean-field model for the distribution of relaxation times in confined regimes.
The effect of confinement in the segmental relaxation of polymers is considered. On the basis of a thermodynamic model we discuss the emerging relevance of the fast degrees of freedom in stimulating the much slower segmental relaxation, as an effect of the constraints at the walls of the amorphous regions. In the case that confinement is due to the presence of crystalline domains, a quasi-Poiss...
متن کاملMicrostructure evolution in polyamide PA11 under small uniaxial extension
Polyamide 11 (PA11) is a linear semicrystalline polymer. Bulk samples of PA11 were compression moulded from the melt. The aim of this study is to describe the deformation of the structure during an uniaxial drawing (up to a true strain of 0.4) at room temperature. The structure of the studied samples is described on two scales by two different X-ray scattering techniques. The small angle X-ray ...
